In 1971 I began my full
time study and practice
of yoga and meditation
with Swami Satchidananda,
which led me to enthusiastically
embrace a monastic lifestyle
for the next six years.
These experiences were
instrumental in expanding
my Roman-Catholic training
regarding relationships,
religion, higher power,
and Self.
Upon realizing the importance
of remaining true to my
western heritage, I continued
my practices bridging eastern
and western approaches
to philosophy, physiology,
psychology and religion.
During my time in India I realized that
in order to successfully navigate through life I needed
to synthesize knowledge
with direct experience .
On the path of Self-exploration,
understanding without direct
experience is boring and
flat, while direct experience
without understanding can
be at the very least confusing
and misrepresented.
It is said in the ancient
texts that understanding
and direct experience are
the two wings that enable
the ‘Dove of Freedom’
to fly high in the space.
It is my experience that
knowledge gained from direct
experience creates a wave-less
clear mind that effortlessly
channels intuition, wisdom,
and love. Connecting to
the source of knowledge
is my goal.
I am in the process of
becoming. My journey proceeds
knowing that every experience
is perfectly placed for
my growth. I have observed
that although there are
many challenges, there
are no mistakes. I am supported
and assisted by something
beyond my limited personality.
