Classes
In our practice of Hatha Yoga, Pranayama and Meditation we have discovered the importance of first becoming aware and sensitive to any ‘point of resistance’ (either physical, energetic or mental), and then without force or strain relaxing into it. Instead of attempting to push through a tight hamstring muscle, struggle with a longer exhalation or react negatively to a wandering mind, we merely observe and surrender deeper into the experience. This process permits us to remain present to and conscious of the subtle yet dynamic moment-to-moment changes that define a spiritual practice. What always follows is magical!

Space Meditation
We know that a concentrated clear mind is a pre-requisite leading to a peaceful state of Meditation. The second step requires that our full attention be focused on a more subtle area of the mind. It is in these finer states of mind that special invitations appear; acting as guides they lead us to a waveless thought-free state of conscousness.
Our ‘sitting practice’ trains us to remain attentive to the invitations, thus remaining established in a Meditative State even during stressful times. The highest priority of our life is to live in this Meditative State regardless of the many challenges we encounter. We have realized that the actual technique (whether mantra, chanting, breath-awareness or any other) is merely the means to acheiving, realizing and fully experiencing our blissful, aware and intuitive center (we name this center the ‘Knower’).

Hatha
yoga for Meditators
Since we first began practicing Hatha Yoga in 1971 we were fascinated by the millions of changes occuring within us every moment of the day. We soon concluded that remaining healthy is a full-time job. Our approach to Hatha Yoga has been greatly influenced by the classical traditions of India. We employ a non-violent paradigm understanding that the ‘no gain without pain’ style does not work. Knowing that our physical condition is dependent on the integration of flexibility, strength and balance motivates us to remain curious, open-minded and excited about keeping our physical, energetic and mental instruments healthy.

Breath
of LIFE (pranayama)
We were both equally attracted to the blissful state of mind we experienced after attending a Pranayama class. We also loved the peaceful meditations that ended each class. Even though we both had no previous training in meditation the breathing exercises created both physical balance and mental clarity; both helpful for a successful meditation practice.
The Science of Pranayama teaches techniques that liberate the life force from unhealthy constraints within the physical, energetic, and mental bodies. Using a variety of simple breathing exercises we are able to concentrate and clear the mind thus building a healthier body with stronger nervous and immune systems. We are convinced that by mastering the breath the mind more effectively assists us in reaching the state of Meditative Peace.

Raja Yoga: The Royal Path of Meditation (Pantanjali
Sutras)
Our life has been guided and enhanced through the study and practice of Meditation. The definitive text on Meditation is contained in the Patanjali Sutras, consisting of 194 concise statements (called 'sutras') that were written over 2000 years ago. The book that we are presently writing (Space Gypsies) is greatly influenced by our study and practice of Meditation as revealed in these ancient teachings.
